Sunnybank Guides
Most Popular Flowers in the UK (2025 Guide)
From classic roses to modern favourites like lisianthus and hydrangea, certain flowers are always in demand
for UK bouquets. As a family-run florist in Unsworth, Bury, we work with these stems every day – so this guide
is here to help you choose the right flowers for birthdays, anniversaries, thank-yous and sympathy bouquets.
1. Roses – timeless and romantic
Roses remain the UK’s most loved flower. Red roses are the classic romantic choice, while
yellow roses are perfect for friendship, congratulations and get-well messages.
Soft pink and white roses work beautifully in birthday, new baby and wedding bouquets.
At Sunnybank Flowers, we use premium long-stemmed roses in many of our designs – from luxury hand-tieds to
elegant rose and lily mixes.
2. Lisianthus – delicate and modern
Lisianthus (sometimes called eustoma) has become a modern favourite for UK florists. It has soft, ruffled
petals that look a little like a rose, but with a lighter, airy feel. It’s ideal for:
- Elegant birthday bouquets
- Soft romantic arrangements
- Wedding flowers and buttonholes
- Sympathy and condolence bouquets
We love using white and lilac lisianthus to add movement and texture to hand-tied bouquets.
3. Carnations – long-lasting colour
Carnation flowers are incredibly long-lasting, which makes them perfect when you want your
bouquet to look good for as long as possible. They come in almost every colour, from soft pastels to vivid
brights, and they blend beautifully with roses, lisianthus and foliage.
4. Hydrangea – big, luxurious blooms
Hydrangea flower heads are large, fluffy and full of impact. A single hydrangea in a bouquet instantly adds a
luxury feel, whether you choose classic white, soft blue or dusky pink. They’re especially popular for:
- Statement birthday bouquets
- Thank-you flowers
- Wedding centrepieces
5. Peonies – short season, huge impact
Peonies have a short season in late spring and early summer – but when they’re in, they are the
flower everyone asks for. Their large, scented blooms open from tight balls into big, romantic flowers in
shades of blush, coral, hot pink and white.
6. Eucalyptus & foliage – the finishing touch
Foliage like eucalyptus leaves, ruscus and seasonal greenery is what makes a bouquet feel
polished and modern. Eucalyptus adds fragrance and texture, while deep green foliage provides structure and
contrast for soft blooms.
